The Role

As a Senior Portfolio Manager, you will oversee discretionary investment mandates, construct model portfolios, and contribute to the firm’s asset allocation framework. Working closely with analysts, risk managers, and client relationship teams, you will drive portfolio performance through research-backed investment decisions, tactical positioning, and proactive risk management.

This role combines analytical rigour with commercial and client-facing engagement, making it ideal for experienced finance professionals seeking to lead within a growing asset management platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead portfolio construction and optimisation across multi-asset strategies, including equities, fixed income, and alternatives
  • Oversee discretionary mandates, ensuring alignment with client objectives, regulatory guidelines, and internal compliance standards
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative investment research to support asset allocation and tactical strategy decisions
  • Analyse macroeconomic, sectoral, and geopolitical trends impacting investment performance
  • Collaborate with the research team to integrate ESG, risk, and performance metrics into portfolio decisions
  • Present investment reviews, performance updates, and market commentary to clients and internal committees
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of FCA regulations, AML requirements, and suitability frameworks for advisory clients
  • Mentor junior analysts and associate portfolio managers, reviewing models, reports, and trade rationales
  • Support business development by contributing to pitch books, presentations, and client proposals

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in portfolio management, investment analysis, or discretionary fund management
  • Proven ability to manage diversified portfolios and achieve consistent risk-adjusted returns
  • Strong knowledge of investment products, derivatives, and risk management techniques
  • Excellent understanding of UK regulatory frameworks, including FCA conduct rules, MiFID II, and AML principles
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Bloomberg, and portfolio analytics systems (e.g. Morningstar Direct, FactSet, Refinitiv)
  • Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills with strong macroeconomic awareness
  • Confident communicator with ability to present complex information to clients and stakeholders
  • CFA, IMC, or equivalent investment qualification required (or near completion)

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience managing institutional or HNW client portfolios
  • Familiarity with structured products, ETFs, and alternative investment strategies
  • Exposure to ESG integration or thematic investment approaches
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior investment professionals
  • Knowledge of Python, R, or VBA for portfolio analytics and automation
